The Town of Wytheville is now accepting applications for permits to hunt on Town-owned land located on Sand Mountain. Applicants must be residents of Wythe County. Applications are available exclusively through the Town’s OpenGov online permitting system, which can be accessed through the Town’s website at www.wytheville.org.
The application fee is $25.00. The Wytheville Town Council has authorized the issuance of a maximum of 50 hunting permits for the Town-owned property on Sand Mountain. Hunting permits issued under this program will expire on August 31, 2027. If more than 50 eligible applications are received, permit holders will be selected through a lottery process.
The deadline for submitting an application is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026. Permits will be issued as soon as practical following the application review and lottery process, if necessary. The hunting permit program is administered by Town staff in accordance with the terms and conditions established and enforced by the Town of Wytheville and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (formerly the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF). Due to the Independence Day holiday, the refuse collection in the Town of Wytheville for Friday, July 3, 2026, will be Held on Monday, July 6, 2026. The normal collection scheduled for Monday, July 6, 2026, will be Held on that day.
The Town of Wytheville’s Recycling Center located at 1025 South Third Street will not have an attendant on duty beginning Friday, July 3, 2026, through Sunday, July 5, 2026, due to the Independence Day holiday. The attendant will return to assist citizens on Monday, July 6, 2026. Please note that when an attendant is not on duty, the Recycling Center's gates are closed, and items cannot be dropped off.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Wytheville Town Council of the Town of Wytheville, Virginia, will conduct a Public Hearing at 6:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, on Monday, June 22, 2026, in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 150 East Monroe Street, Wytheville, Virginia.
The purpose of the Public Hearing is to consider appropriations to the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Budget in order to amend departmental budgets due to unexpected expenditures incurred during the fiscal year.
