Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the Town Council of the Town of Wytheville, Virginia, at 6:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, on Monday, May 12, 2025, in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 150 East Monroe Street, Wytheville, Virginia, to consider the request of Michael Waller for a Special Exception Permit to allow a Homestay Use Without Owner Occupancy for property located at 1340 West Main Street (The Better Way Warehouse, Inc.), Tax Parcel 41A-7-44-7B, in an M-1 Industrial Zoning District and to approve a deviation to the required parking regulations located on the parcel identified as Tax Parcel 41A-7-44-14B.
Notice is hereby given that the Town of Wytheville Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 150 East Monroe Street, Wytheville, Virginia, to consider the request of Douglas Oberman for a Zoning Variance on property located at 360 Asbury Lane, Tax Map Parcel #25-70J. The requested variance is to the Wytheville Zoning Ordinance, Article VI, Residential District R-1, Section 6-1.5, regarding installing a 12’ X 28’ storage shed on the right rear side of the home. An accessory structure in an R-1 Residential District is required to be placed in the rear yard only.
Notice is hereby given that the Town of Wytheville Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 150 East Monroe Street, Wytheville, Virginia, to consider the request of Robert Snow for a Zoning Variance on property located at 520 South 12th Street, Tax Map Parcel #41A-1-111-2. The requested variance is to the Wytheville Zoning Ordinance, Article VIII, Residential District R-3, Section 8-1.12, regarding placing a 20’ X 20’ metal garage structure in the side yard due to no backyard being available for the structure. An accessory structure in an R-3 Residential District is required to be placed in the rear yard only.
The Town of Wythevile is happy to announce that Kevin Hackler is the new Director of Public Works effective as of April 13, 2025. Kevin has been employed with the Town of Wytheville for almost 25 years and has been a Supervisor within the Public Works Department for 10 years. With his many years of experience with the Town, we are sure he will do an excellent job.

REMINDER: TOWN OF WYTHEVILLE BUSINESS LICENSES EXPIRE May 1, 2025. Please note applicants must attach a copy of your prior year’s federal income tax return or a statement from your bookkeeper/certified public accountant along with the application in order to receive a business license. Licenses are due and payable on or before May 1, 2025. Persons and firms conducting businesses or professions without the necessary business license after May 1, 2025, will be subject to penalties, interest and summons provided for in the Town Ordinance.

The Town of Wytheville would like to remind property owners of their obligation to the Town’s Mowing Ordinance in the Town Code: Chapter 12. Solid Waste Collection and Disposal, Article VI. Nuisances on Premises, Removal of Weeds, Mowing, Etc., and Clutter, Division 2. Removal of Weeds, Mowing, Etc.
The ordinance was amended to remove the language of only having to mow three (3) times per season beginning April 1 through September 30, and, in Chapter 12. Section 12-92, of the Town Code states, “It shall be unlawful for the owners of property to permit grass, weeds and other foreign growth to exceed the prescribed height of 12 inches, except: (1) if a property is located in an A-1 Agricultural Zone that has been set aside for agricultural operations as defined in Chapter 12. Section 12-76 and used for the production of hay, feed crops or similar agricultural uses; (2) if a property owner has applied and been approved for a mowing exemption as outlined in Chapter 12. Section 12-94; or, (3) if a property owner has applied and been approved for using the property for nontraditional landscaping purposes as defined in Section 12-93.” The Code of the Town of Wytheville, Virginia, is available online for viewing at https://library.municode.com/va/wytheville.
The Town would like to remind citizens that it is unlawful to dispose of grass and other vegetative debris on the sidewalks and streets of the town. The Town of Wytheville appreciates the efforts of its citizens in maintaining yards and outdoor spaces.

The Withers Park restrooms will be closed beginning on May 12, 2025 and are anticipated to reopen on May 19, 2025. During this time we will be making repairs and repainting the restrooms. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
The indoor pool at the Wytheville Community Center will be closed on Monday, April 28, and Tuesday, April 29, due to maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience.
AEP will begin clearing underbrush along the Powerline Trail at Crystal Springs on March 12th, 2025. The trails will remain open during this. In early April heavy equipment may be used to clear brush and the park will close during that time. We will update this information and social media information as actual dates become available.
