New River Regional Water Authority
The New River Regional Water Authority (NRRWA) is located in Austinville, Virginia. The NRRWA was created through the partnership of Wytheville, Wythe County, and Carroll County to answer the water demands and future needs of the partner localities. The facility began producing clean drinking water for the citizens of the surrounding area in 2009. The source of water for the facility is drawn from the New River. The NRRWA has a design capacity of 4 million gallons per day and is undergoing planning for an expansion upgrade to 6.33 million gallons per day. At present the Town of Wytheville purchases between 1 and 1.5 million gallons per day from the facility to supply the needs of citizens and industries. The facility employs a conventional treatment process which includes pre-oxidation, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and chlorination. NRRWA is staffed by state certified and nationally recognized licensed operators who undergo rigorous training and continuous education to assure that the facility produces the best drinking water possible. The New River Regional Water Authority has received multiple Gold and Silver Virginia Department of Health Excellence in Granular Media Water Treatment Plant Performance Awards.
